How will the new Smoking Regulations affect your business?

The Smoke-free (Signs) Regulations 2007
Effective from: 1st July 2007
Requirement: Regulations are part of the legislation banning smoking in most enclosed public places in England.
Signs required: The Regulations require the signs to be a minimum of A5 in size (148x210mm) and contain a no smoking symbol that is a minimum of 70mm in diameter. The wording must be 'No smoking. It is against the law to smoke in these premises'. The words 'these premises' can be substituted for a specific description eg 'No smoking. It is against the law to smoke in this restaurant'. The following signs must be displayed at each public entrance in a conspicuous position for staff and visitors entering the building.

	SMOKE FREE VEHICLES	Smoke free vehicles must display one no smoking sign in each compartment of a covered or partly covered vehicle. The symbol must be a minimum of 70mm diameter. Note: these signs do not need to show any additional text.

Northern Ireland The Smoking (Northern Ireland) Order Effective from: 30th April 2007 Requirement: It is against the law to smoke in enclosed and substantially enclosed places, public places and certain vehicles. Signs required: Must display signs at each public entrance to any work or public place. No smoking signs should also be displayed in public and business vehicles. Exemption: Clearly marked bedroooms in hotels, care homes and prisons.

Wales The Smoke-free Premises etc. (Wales) Regulations 2007 Effective from: 2nd April 2007 Requirement: Comprehensive ban on smoking in all enclosed public places. Signs required: Must display this sign at each public entrance to any work or public place. General and dual language 'No smoking' signs should also be on display in business and public vehicles.
